EatingOxford: High-End Taqueria Coming To Oxford

Last week, HottyToddy.com announced that Soul Fish Cafe was coming to the South Lamar Court development near the new Baptist Memorial Hospital on Belk Boulevard.
Now there are additional plans for an upscale taco restaurant called Uno Mas, or “one more” in Spanish, to occupy 3,302 square feet of South Lamar Court’s west end cap, according to Frank Dyer, III, realtor at Memphis-based Loeb Realty Group.
The restaurant’s owner and an Ole Miss grad, Jose Garcia, said that he plans to move back to Oxford from Madison, Mississippi, in order to run Uno Mas.
Garcia’s family currently operates Papitos Mexican Grill in Oxford. “Uno Mas will be a whole different concept from Papitos,” said Garcia. “It will be a modern taqueria with tacos made from scratch using homemade tortillas, local ingredients and fresh margaritas.”
The sit-down restaurant will offer a range of traditional and non-traditional tacos ranging from duck to barbacoa, according to Garcia. “We’re still working on creating the menu, but we’re pulling inspiration from high-end taquerias in Chicago and California,” he said.
When asked about the name Uno Mas, Garcia said that being in a college town, it’s reminiscent of when you order “one more” beer. “This will be ordering one more taco,” he said. “Also, I didn’t think of it until recently, but the first letters of each word spell UM, like University of Mississippi.”
Garcia will attend August’s Oxford Planning Commission meeting to further explain the Uno Mas concept to city leaders and meeting attendees.

Mundo Latino taqueria y tienda (behind Oby’s) is and has been the best taqueria in Mississippi. If this place sells <$2 tacos that compare, I'm interested.
Oxford doesn't need more overpriced subpar taquerias like South Depot and yoknapataco.
