It Took 41 Years, But Ole Miss Is Back on Top of SEC Golf

Ole Miss men’s golf has waited a long time for a day like this. 41 years, to be exact.

But on Sunday afternoon at Sea Island, the Rebels finally joined the 1984 team in the program’s tiny, exclusive club of SEC champions.

No. 12 Ole Miss didn’t just win the league title. It handled No. 3 Florida 4-1 in the match play finals and looked every bit like a team that belonged on that stage.

This wasn’t a fluke run. The SEC field was loaded with 11 of the top 25 teams in the country and five inside the top 10. Ole Miss didn’t blink. The Rebels played like a group that had been building toward this moment all spring, and when the lights were brightest, they were the ones who kept delivering.

Tom Fischer set the tone again, which has basically become his thing in April. He went 6-under and closed out his match 5&4 after stuffing a wedge to four feet on 14.

That gave Ole Miss the first point and a whole lot of momentum. Fischer finished the week 3-0 in match play with a top‑20 stroke play finish, which is about as strong a postseason statement as you can make.

Then came the avalanche. Collins Trolio fell behind early, shrugged it off, and birdied four straight holes to flip his match. Back‑to‑back birdies on 14 and 15 sealed it, pushing the Rebels ahead 2-0.

Trolio also finished the week 3-0 and led the entire tournament with 20 birdies. He was one of the best players on the course from start to finish.

And of course, Cameron Tankersley closed the door.

After clinching the semifinal against No. 1 Auburn the day before, he stepped right back into the pressure and handled it again. Birdies on 10 and 11 gave him the lead, and when Florida stumbled with a double bogey, Tankersley pounced. He held on for a 1UP win that delivered the third point and the SEC title.

Another 3-0 week. Another clutch finish.

By the time the final matches wrapped, Ole Miss had already done enough.

Cohen Trolio’s match ended tied through 15, and Daniel Tolf went 19 holes before his match also finished even. None of it changed the outcome. The Rebels were already champions.

Ole Miss finished the week with a tournament‑best 70 birdies and a lineup that looked confident, connected, and completely unfazed by the moment. It felt like a team that understood the weight of the history they were chasing and decided to go take it anyway.

Now the Rebels turn toward NCAA Regionals on May 18 with a trophy in hand and a whole lot of belief. After four decades of waiting, Ole Miss finally has another SEC title.

And the way this group is playing, it doesn’t feel like they’re done making noise.

Ole Miss has a chance to win its first SEC title in 46 years on Sunday, and the path to this moment has had its ups and downs, but the Rebels have one more tee time.

The Rebels didn’t sneak into the championship match as a plucky underdog. They earned their way to it, starting with a 4.5-0.5 win over Texas A&M early Saturday before knocking off top-ranked Auburn in the semifinals.

Now they get Florida with a trophy on the line.

Ole Miss came out early and looked comfortable. Tom Fischer set the tone with a 3 and 2 win over Jaime Montojo, and Cameron Tankersley followed with a 4 and 3 victory that pushed the Rebels to the edge of advancing. Collins Trolio closed the door with a 2 and 1 win over Shiv Parmar.

Daniel Tolf halved his match, and Cohen Trolio was 2 up through 16 when his match ended. By then, the Rebels had already moved on.

The semifinal was tighter, but Ole Miss never looked rattled.

Fischer once again opened the scoring, beating Cayden Pope 3 and 1 with six birdies.

Auburn answered, but Collins Trolio delivered one of the biggest points of the day by taking down the No. 1 amateur in the world with a 2 and 1 win. His chip-in to clinch it gave Ole Miss a jolt.

Auburn tied things at 2-all, leaving everything on Tankersley’s match with Josiah Gilbert. Gilbert led early, but Tankersley flipped it on the 12th and held a one-up lead going to the last.

Both players made par, and that was enough to give Ole Miss the 3-2 win and a spot in the final.

Ole Miss will face Florida on Sunday morning on SEC Network at 7 a.m. CT. A win would give the Rebels their first SEC championship since 1984.

They’ve played their way into this chance. Now it’s about finishing the job.

Ole Miss Advances to Match Play at SEC Championship

Ole Miss didn’t need anything flashy on Friday. It just needed to finish the job, and the Rebels did exactly that at the SEC Championship.

For the first time since 2023, Ole Miss is heading to match play after posting a steady 1-over 281 in the final round of stroke play. That number locked the Rebels into solo fourth at 20-under for the week and gave them the No. 4 seed heading into Saturday’s quarterfinals.

The biggest push came from Cohen Trolio, who turned in the round Ole Miss needed. He closed with a 4-under 66, moved to 10-under for the tournament, and tied for third overall.

It also matched his best finish of the season and continued a year where he’s been in red figures almost every time he tees it up.

Tom Fischer wrapped up stroke play at 5-under and tied for 17th, while Cameron Tankersley finished at 4-under and tied for 24th. It wasn’t a day full of fireworks, but it didn’t have to be.

Ole Miss just needed to stay clean, post a number, and get into the bracket.

Now the Rebels get Texas A&M in the quarterfinals, with the match starting early at 6:30 a.m.

If they advance, the semifinals will stream on SEC Network Plus at 2 p.m. Saturday, and the championship match airs Sunday morning on SEC Network.

Ole Miss has put itself in position. Now it’s about seeing how far this run can go.

Ole Miss Nears Match Play Cut with Third-Place Standing

Ole Miss put together another steady day at the SEC Championship on Thursday and sits in third place after 36 holes. The No. 12 Rebels shot 274 at 6-under in the second round and are 21-under for the tournament heading into Friday.

Tom Fischer continued his strong week with a bogey-free 5-under 65, stretching his streak of under-par rounds to seven. He played the front nine at 2-under, then added three more birdies on the back. Fischer also took advantage of both par-5s, using his length to set up scoring chances. The Birmingham native is tied for eighth at 7-under.

Cameron Tankersley matched that number for the tournament after posting a 1-under 69 in round two.

Both Trolio brothers turned in even-par rounds. Cohen remains at 6-under and is tied for 15th, while Collins sits at 3-over. Daniel Tolf shot 1-over on Thursday and is even for the week.

Ole Miss is trying to secure a spot in match play for the first time since 2023. The top eight teams after stroke play advance to the bracket.

The final round of stroke play begins Friday at 8:15 a.m. CT.
