Delta Magazine: Three Bonafide Beer Gardens
What’s better than drinking a nice, cold beer? Try drinking that nice, cold beer out in the autumn sun.
We’ve undertaken some research – highly unscientific, perhaps, but we still believe it a valuable contribution to society – and we can attest that the heart of the Mississippi Delta offers the state’s best beer gardens. Is it any wonder? The Delta has always known just how to drink.

Crafty Hideaway: Delta Brewing Supply & Beer Garden
The go-to spot for Delta beer snobs has a lovely little secret out back: a gravel-lined, wood-fenced patio, flourishing with flowers and plants. With “beer run” discounts on Mondays, earned after jogging a few miles, two-for-one deals on “Two’sdays,” and Thursday night Open Mic, there’s always fun on tap – along with beers you’ll find nowhere else.

Uptown Delta: Hey Joe’s Records + Cafe
This sleek new two-story patio was project enough to require approval from the city, and took nearly a year to build. It’s proved worth the wait. Dog and kid friendly, it features lawn games, outdoor rock shows, and a projector screen for sports games and movies – not to mention the stunning view of the downtown.

The Real Deal: Schweinehaus
Let’s give credit where credit is due: thanks, Germany, for inventing the beer garden. In Memphis you can celebrate that achievement at this irreverent new joint in Overton Square. Schweinehaus can be translated by “house of pork” – which shows the strong connection between the old-fashioned Bavaria and the contemporary South. The menu and beer list here gives you a good taste of both.
