Gus's Fried Chicken Moves to North Lamar

Gus’s Fried Chicken, which originally opened 4 years ago on Oxford’s Square, has moved locations onto North Lamar a few weeks ago to provide it’s customers more parking, said general manager Chastin Thompson.
“[New location] is more of a Gus’s feel, it’s homey,” Thompson said. “The biggest thing for us was having our customers being able to get in and get out.”
The old location on The Square caused problems for customers due to metered parking, Thompson said.
“[Customers] would have to run out in halfway through their meal to pay the meter or worrying about getting towed,” Thompson said. “It was too big of a hassle, so we tried to make it a little bit easier for people to come and enjoy our food with us.”
Gus’s offers a different experience over their competition of fried chicken in Oxford with their chicken being cooked to order.
“You can go to Popeyes and order an eight-piece in 30 seconds,” Thompson said, “but [with Gus’s] you don’t have to worry about your food getting cold because when you order, we drop [the chicken].”
Gus’s offers homestyle sides, homemade pie and vanilla bean ice-cream. It’s drink specials include Bloody Rebels and Mimosas.
The new location offers a variety of seating which includes a bar, dining room and a full patio. Gus’s is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
