EatingOxford: Restaurants We Lost in 2016
In light of the disappointing news of Shelter on Van Buren’s sudden closure, I started thinking about the other food and restaurant hangouts we lost over the past year.
While Oxford gained more than a dozen restaurants in 2016, we also lost quite a few. Let’s take a look back at some of the eateries that closed their doors in 2016 as well as those that changed their names and/or locations.
Closed in 2016
• Coop De Ville (Jackson Ave.)
• My Guys Biscuits and BBQ (Jackson Ave.)
• Farmer’s Market (Lamar Blvd.)
• Fins Fish & Oyster Company (Square)
• Pizza Hut (Jackson Ave. outpost; University Ave. still open)
• Lusa Pastry Cafe (Jackson Ave. outpost; Lamar Blvd. still open)
• High Point Coffee (Jackson Ave. outpost; Lamar Blvd. still open)
Moves and Transformations
• Tequila’s near Kroger moved by Cash Saver and changed its name to La Perla Tapatia
• Lamar Lounge on Lamar Blvd. transformed into Italian restaurant Fat Eddie’s
• Burgundy Room above Old Venice Pizza Co. became Summit Bar
• Kelli’s Cakes by Cash Saver became The Cakery
• Living Foods near Pat Lamar Park changed its name to Living Foods Wellness Café & Juicery
• Popeye’s moved from Belk Blvd. to Jackson Ave.
