Date Set for Oxford Pantry's Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser

Published

on

Local restaurants, volunteers, potters and a group of ceramic artists called the University of Mississippi Mud Daubers will come together next month for Oxford Pantry’s largest annual fundraiser of the year, Empty Bowls.

This year, Empty Bowls will be held at the Oxford Conference Center from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 8. Guests will be served a soup of their choice, bread and a water bottle.
For $20, participants can pick a soup donated by several different local restaurants and a carefully crafted collectors bowl donated by the Mud Daubers. They can take their bowls home as a reminder of the fundraiser’s purpose – someone’s bowl is always empty.

Guests pick their favorite ceramic bowls to take home as part of the 2017 Empty Bowls fundraiser.

The Empty Bowls Project began in Michigan as an effort to help fight hunger. In 1990, what was expected to be a one-time event was such a tremendous success that the project grew to become an international effort funding hundreds of organizations helping the fight against hunger.
In Oxford, the fundraiser supports nearly 40,000 meals provided annually by the Oxford Food Pantry.
