Three Blind Wines, See How They Taste

Popular fundraising event offers wine tasting and friendly competition.

The Yoknapatawpha Arts Council (YAC)‘s 3 Blind Wines, in its fourth year, is back on Tuesday, October 8 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Powerhouse, this time benefiting the Rotary Club of Oxford, the Moak Scholarship Fund, and YAC.

3 Blind Wines is a wine tasting with a twist, as teams compete by placing their favorite wine in a taste test against other teams’ wines. Teams sample the wines and vote for their favorite, with the team whose wine receives the most votes winning one bottle of all the other teams’ wines.

The event is designed to demystify wines.

“A wine tasting can imply that you must have a special knowledge to enjoy the event,” says Wayne Andrews, YAC director and founder of the event. “Our goal was to make the event about having a chance to taste wines and just decide if you enjoyed the wine.”

Taste is all that is measured with this event, because attendees can’t see the labels. This year YAC has partnered with the Rotary Club of Oxford for the fundraiser.

“We are proud to partner with the arts council,” says Charlie Perkins, club president. “As Rotarians we work to serve our community. This project will help us show our support for an important community organization while raising funds for our mission. Partnerships of this nature help our members serve community groups and build relationships.” The Rotary Club of Oxford will be raising funds for the Moak Scholarship Fund and future community projects.

Tickets are for teams of two and are $35 plus the cost of three bottles of wine or $100 all-inclusive.
