Eating Oxford
Sandwich Watch: Coop DeVille
It’s not just for late night
Thought by many to be sustenance only for muchie-stricken college students, Coop’s always been an unsung hero for pickup or delivery even by grown folks for dinner.
Ole Miss grad Scott Brennan started Oxford’s chicken wing stalwart Coop De Ville in 1993, slinging buffalo wings, chicken tenders, signature subs and salads all over town. While Coop is best-known for wings—including but absolutely not limited to the Bacon-Cheddar wings, which are covered in melted cheddar and bacon shards—don’t forget the subs, including, among a bevy of others, the Love Me Tender. The Bandito sub is aptly named, because it steals your heart by force. The Ranchero and Buffalo Bill are killers, too, but there are many more.
Coop DeVille is located at 1417 Jackson Avenue, near Double Quick, and is open every day at 5 p.m., closing at 1 a.m. Monday through Wednesday, 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 12 a.m. Sunday (Monday morning).
