Square Toast for the Scholar Happening Tonight

The Square Toast for Scholars fundraiser event sprung out of a brainstorm between three students and two faculty members in the Dept. of Nutrition and Hospitality Management in the winter of 2008 when the department was known as Department of Family and Consumer Science. Those three students who laid the foundation graduated but a group of seven students then oversaw the first Square Toast for the Scholars on the Lafayette Courthouse lawn. Seven years later the Square Toast for the Scholar is festive as ever.
The event grew every year via the NHM 312 class: Event Managing which enabled students to apply their classroom learning in a real-world scenario. What began as an event was now a class of 30 some students and growing. Jeremy Roberts, University of Mississippi Hospitality Management graduate in class of 2010, wrote: “The real world, hands-on experience intrigued many of them as they were waiting to raise the bar.”
The event moved off the Lafayette Courthouse yard to include the entire Square. The attendees arrive at the Lyric to receive a wine glass and a map of venues to browse around the Square.
The venues post their products and services for sale in a silent auction as well as providing great eats for those stopping by their areas.
The participating venues are A Look Ahead Eyewear with Sarabella’s Southern Sauces, AC’S Bed & Bath with Gatto Specialty Foods, Brooks Collection with Woodson Ridge Farms, Cat Daddy’s with Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Cicada for Him with Party Waitin’ to Happen, Endurance Athletics with Gatto Specialty Foods, Frock with Gatto Specialty Foods, Gus’s Fried Chicken, Holli’s Sweet Tooth with Sugaree’s Bakery, Indigos with My Michelle’s, JCG Apparel with Goose Creek Country Club, Jones at Home with Yokna Bottoms Farm, Katherine Beck with Kelli’s Cakes and Confections, Lily Pad with Centerplate, LuLu’s with Central BBQ, Material Girls with Lenoir Dining, McEwen’s Oxford, Miss Monogram with Lenoir Dining, Old Venice Pizza Co., Olive Juice with Banquets at the Inn at Ole Miss, Pink & Proper with Taylor Grocery, Proud Larry’s, Rib Cage Oxford, Round Table, Something Southern with Lenoir Dining, Soulshine Pizza Factory, and South Depot Taco Shop.
